Enigmatic Transylvania Bike Tour
The word Transylvania literally means the “place beyond the woods”, and this charming wonderland of hills, meadows, forests has long been considered one of the most mysterious and mythical places in western culture.
Which is why we’ve named this tour the Enigmatic Transylvania tour.
Come join us as we explore this land long associated with howling wolves, vampire bats, mysterious castles, and above all, Dracula.
We start our journey from the charming medieval town of Brasov, with its well-preserved Old Town and iconic Black Church, and pass through quaint Saxon villages that haven’t changed for centuries. Along the way, explore fortified churches dating back to the 12th century, stay in heritage hotels some of which are over 400 years old, and even visit Sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Count Dracula.
Our adventure culminates at Sibiu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nicknamed the “town with eyes” for its enigmatic houses with eyes dating back to the 15th century. After all, everything in Transylvania is an enigma that has endured for centuries.

Handpicked Heritage Hotels
Several hotels offer a historic experience. The Fronius Residence in Sighișoara, a guesthouse from 1609, is 415 years old. Daniel Castle in Talisoara, an aristocratic castle, dates back to 1674. The Villa Levoslav House in Sibiu, built in 1838, was the home of composer Jan Levoslav Bella.

Charming Saxon Villages
When we say this is an off-beat tour, we mean it. The itinerary includes stays at several quaint villages that have preserved the old Saxon way of life for centuries. These include the village of Viscri, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and lesser known but equally beautiful villages of Stejarisu, Carta, and Movile where we get to relish local delicacies fresh off the farm.

Untamed Wilderness of Transylvania
With more than 27% of its land area under forest cover, Romania is the most thickly forested country in the European Union. And at the heart of this wilderness is mystical Transylvania. Ride past the imposing Carpathian mountains and herds of Danube Delta wild horses as you feast your eyes on the relaxing greenery all around you.

When should I buy travel insurance?
Purchase travel insurance as soon as you've paid in full or booked your flights.
Is proof of travel insurance required?
Yes. You must provide your insurer's name, policy number, and emergency contact via our reservation form. This is mandatory. If you cannot provide proof, you’ll need to purchase insurance before traveling with us.
Does Art of Bicycle Trips sell travel insurance?
We do not sell travel insurance directly, as we believe our customers should have the freedom to choose a policy that best suits their needs. However, we recommend Insured Nomads as a great starting point.
