Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Brixen
Your journey begins with an individual arrival in the charming town of Brixen, also known as Bressanone. Nestled in the heart of South Tyrol, this historic town offers a relaxed introduction to the region. After checking into your hotel, take time to explore its atmospheric streets, where alpine traditions blend seamlessly with Italian influences.
Surrounded by mountain scenery, Brixen sets the tone for the days ahead. The peaceful environment allows you to settle in comfortably before your hiking adventure begins. With detailed route information and support services arranged, you can prepare for the upcoming journey at your own pace.

Day 2: Klausen
Today’s hike begins as you ascend towards Pfeffersberg, passing small hamlets and traditional mountain farms scattered across the plateau. As you progress, the landscape opens to reveal impressive views of the Dolomite peaks to the south. The route continues through Velturno, offering a blend of rural charm and scenic beauty.
A highlight of the day is the approach to the cloister Säben, often referred to as the acropolis of South Tyrol, perched dramatically above the valley. The descent leads you into the picturesque town of Klausen, also known as Chiusa, where narrow streets and historic architecture create a memorable end to the day.

Day 3: Bolzano
After a short bus transfer to Barbiano or Saubach, the trail leads you to the Renon plateau, a remarkable area above the Eisacktal valley. This elevated route offers sweeping views of the Dolomites and the distinctive Schlern massif. Along the way, you encounter the fascinating Earth Pyramids, unique natural formations that add character to the landscape.
The journey continues with an optional cable car ride from Soprabolzano down to Bolzano, providing a memorable perspective over the region. In the evening, you can explore Bolzano, a vibrant city where Italian and South Tyrolean cultures blend harmoniously in architecture, cuisine, and atmosphere.

Day 4: Bolzano
Today’s route takes you into the sunny southern part of South Tyrol, centered around the renowned Lake Kalterer See. This area is celebrated for its vineyards and long-standing wine-growing traditions. As you walk, you pass through landscapes dotted with castles, manor houses, churches, and farms, each reflecting the region’s rich heritage.
A visit to the South Tyrolean wine museum in Caldaro offers deeper insight into local viticulture. The combination of natural beauty and cultural depth makes this day particularly rewarding. After exploring the lake and surrounding village, you return to Bolzano by public bus, concluding a well-rounded experience.

Day 5: Merano
Following breakfast, you take a train to Lana, where today’s hike begins. Soon after, the route joins the Marlinger Waale, the longest irrigation channel in South Tyrol. These historic water channels were originally constructed to supply dry areas and are now peaceful walking paths. The trail continues beneath Schloss Tyrol, offering scenic views and a sense of historical continuity.
As you approach Merano, the famous Tappeiner Weg provides a pleasant walking experience with views over the town. Known for its mild climate, Merano welcomes you with elegant promenades, lush parks, and a refined atmosphere that reflects its long-standing appeal.

Can I use my credit card insurance?
Yes, as long as it meets our requirements and provides adequate coverage. Ensure you have an emergency contact number and policy number available.
When should I buy travel insurance?
Purchase travel insurance as soon as you've paid in full or booked your flights.
Does Art of Bicycle Trips sell travel insurance?
We do not sell travel insurance directly, as we believe our customers should have the freedom to choose a policy that best suits their needs. However, we recommend Insured Nomads as a great starting point.
