Upon arrival, you will check in at your hotel and settle into the peaceful surroundings of the Dolomites. This first day is designed for relaxation after your journey, allowing you to take in the fresh mountain air and explore the small town at your own pace.
Surrounded by dramatic peaks and green valleys, Sillian offers a gentle introduction to the landscapes you will experience throughout the week. Use this time to prepare for the days ahead and enjoy a quiet evening.

Day 2: Sesto(Sexten)
Your day begins with a transfer to Vierschach, followed by a cable car ride up to the well known Helm mountain. From here, you set off along the Carnic High Trail, a scenic route that crosses the border between Italy and Austria multiple times. The trail offers sweeping views of the Sesto Dolomites, creating a truly memorable hiking experience.
Along the way, several cozy mountain huts provide inviting spots to rest and enjoy the alpine atmosphere. The descent leads you down towards Sesto, where you will spend the evening surrounded by striking mountain scenery.

Day 3: Sesto
Today’s route takes you on a scenic circular hike through the Rotwandwiesen area, following historic high trails once used during wartime. Beginning at the Kreuzberg Pass, the path leads through a mix of forests and alpine meadows, offering a varied and engaging landscape throughout the day.
As you walk, you will be treated to beautiful views of the Karnischen Kamm, while to the north the peaks of the Rieserferner group rise prominently. The route gradually brings you back to Sesto, completing a rewarding loop filled with both natural beauty and historical significance.

Day 4: Höhlensteintal
Starting in the Fischlein Valley, today’s hike takes you beneath Mount Paterno, a site of historical importance during World War I. The route continues towards the iconic Three Peaks, one of the most famous landmarks in the Dolomites and a designated UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. At the Drei Zinnen Hut, you can take in the classic northern view of these dramatic formations.
The trail then continues across the Rienzböden and through the Rienztal, eventually reaching the Dreizinnenblick in the Höhlenstein Valley. This stage offers some of the most striking scenery of the entire journey.

Day 5: Braies
Today you follow a historic path through the Hell Valley, gradually ascending along an old World War I route towards Strudelkopf. From this elevated viewpoint, you descend to the Plätzwiese, a wide alpine plateau known for its expansive scenery. The journey continues into the Braies Valley, where peaceful surroundings and impressive mountain views await.
Along the way, you will enjoy perspectives of Monte Cristallo, the Tofana, and the Three Peaks. For those who prefer a shorter descent, a bus option is available. The day concludes in the tranquil setting of Braies.

Day 6: Braies
Today’s circular route introduces you to Lake Braies, often referred to as the Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes. Known for its clear waters, the lake creates a serene and picturesque setting that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding peaks. The hike continues through the Fanes Sennes Prags Nature Park, one of the largest protected areas in South Tyrol.
The trails pass through a romantic landscape of forests and open terrain, offering a peaceful and immersive nature experience. This day provides a slower pace, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of this iconic location.

Day 7: Sillian
Your final hiking day begins in Altprags, leading you through meadows and forested paths set against the impressive backdrop of the Dolomites. The route climbs steadily to the Putzalm, a traditional alpine hut known for its regional dishes and welcoming atmosphere. The best time to hike in the Sesto Dolomites is from mid June to mid September, when trails are clear and mountain huts are open. Summer brings stable weather, long daylight hours, and comfortable hiking conditions. Daytime temperatures typically range between 15 to 25°C (59 to 77°F) at mid elevations, while higher trails can feel cooler.
Early season in June may still have some snow at higher altitudes, and September offers crisp air with fewer crowds. Outside this window, snow and limited services make hiking more challenging.

Purchase travel insurance as soon as you've paid in full or booked your flights.
