Day 1: Lenno
Make your way independently to the peaceful lakeside village of Lenno, where you'll spend all four nights. After settling into your accommodation just steps from the lake, take time to wander through the charming village streets. If you arrive early, consider visiting the elegant Villa Balbianello gardens, an 18th-century estate that served as a filming location for both Star Wars and Casino Royale. On warm days, relax on the small pebble beach and enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake's clear waters.
Day 2: Lenno
Today's walk leads you through the scenic hills of the Azalea Riviera, offering stunning lake and mountain panoramas. Your route reveals fascinating contrasts between traditional medieval villages with Renaissance churches and the immaculate gardens surrounding grand villas. Visit the renowned Villa Carlotta, celebrated for its terraced Italian gardens featuring lemon trees and sculpted boxwood, alongside an English garden with sweeping views. Inside, admire the neoclassical art collection that decorates the villa's rich interior. Return to Lenno by boat transfer across the lake.
Day 3: Lenno
Take a boat transfer to Bellagio, famously described by composer Gabriel Fauré as one of Earth's most beautiful and voluptuous sites. Walk to the picturesque fishing village of Pescallo before crossing through the park of Villa Giolia. Ascend to the hilltop hamlet of Perlo for breathtaking views over the lake. Complete your loop by descending through the beautiful gardens of Villa Melzi, once rented by the writer Stendhal. The boat returns you to Lenno in the late afternoon.
Day 4: Lenno
A boat takes you across to Bellano on the lake's eastern shore. Follow the historic Sentiero del Viandante, originally traced by Roman legionaries heading to the Alpine passes. Your gentle ascent passes the dramatic Orrido di Bellano gorges, formed in ancient times and available for optional exploration. Continue through the village of Gittana with panoramic lake views before reaching the 12th-century Vezio castle. Conclude in colorful Varenna, where hillside houses cascade toward the water. From Como, board a scenic boat across Lake Como to reach Lenno. The overall journey from Milan airport to Lenno takes approximately one hour, depending on connections. Upon arrival at the Lenno boat pier, your hotel is just a 15-minute walk, with detailed directions and a map provided in the roadbook.
Departure
At the end of the tour, travelers can follow the same route in reverse. From Lenno, take a boat back across Lake Como to Como, enjoying the final views of the lake and surrounding mountains. From Como, regular train services connect directly to Milan, allowing easy access to both Milan Malpensa Airport and Milan Linate Airport for onward international or domestic flights. This simple and well-connected transport route ensures a smooth and convenient departure after your Lake Como walking experience.
