Your journey begins in the lively coastal city of Gothenburg, the gateway to the Gotaleden trail. After arriving, check in at your centrally located hotel and settle into the welcoming atmosphere of this friendly Swedish city. The rest of the day is free to explore at your own pace. Gothenburg is known for its relaxed waterfront character, vibrant neighborhoods, and excellent seafood restaurants.
Take a stroll through the city center, browse local shops, or enjoy a leisurely dinner in one of the many cafés and restaurants nearby. This evening provides a pleasant introduction to West Sweden before the hiking adventure begins the following day.

Day 2: Aspenäs
After leaving your luggage at the hotel, begin your hike directly from Gothenburg. The first few kilometers take you through the city before reaching the expansive Delsjön nature reserve. This scenic area features old forest and lakes of varying sizes, creating a peaceful natural environment.
The trail soon becomes more immersive as you pass several small lakes and possible picnic spots with views of the surrounding landscape. Continue along the route past Kåsjön before reaching the historic village of Jonsered, known for its rural character and pleasant gardens and café. The final section follows hilly paths beside Lake Aspen before arriving in Aspenäs for the night.

Day 3: Tollered
The day begins with a gentle walk toward Lerum before the trail begins following the scenic course of the Säveån River. This section of the Gotaleden offers some of the most tranquil landscapes of the journey. Continue past the small community of Stenkullen and enter the Säveån nature reserve, where forest trails follow the river for several peaceful kilometers.
The area is rich in wildlife and provides pleasant places to pause for a picnic lunch. In Floda, you may stop at the well known Garveriet, also called The Tannery, which offers a welcoming atmosphere. From here, an easy final stretch leads to the historic Nääs Fabriker Hotel in Tollered.

Day 4: Alingsås
Today’s route continues through varied countryside as you depart Tollered and walk uphill through forests and open meadows. Along the way you pass the sheep farm Mysten before entering stretches of fine coniferous woodland. The peaceful atmosphere and natural surroundings create a pleasant rhythm for the day’s hike.
Gradually the trail approaches the community of Ingared, where sections of gravel and asphalt provide views toward beautiful turn of the century houses overlooking Lake Mjörn. As you near the end of the trail, you arrive at Nolhaga Park and the nearby Nolhaga Castle. A short final walk brings you into Alingsås, a charming town known for its welcoming cafés and historic square.

The hiking season for the Gotaleden Trail runs from April to October, when weather conditions are most suitable for long walks. Spring and early summer offer fresh greenery and comfortable temperatures, while late summer and early autumn bring stable weather and beautiful colors. From May to September, daytime temperatures typically range between 15°C and 22°C (59°F to 72°F), making hiking pleasant without excessive heat.
April and October are cooler, with temperatures around 8°C to 14°C (46°F to 57°F), but still manageable with proper clothing. Yes. You must provide your insurer's name, policy number, and emergency contact via our reservation form. This is mandatory. If you cannot provide proof, you’ll need to purchase insurance before traveling with us.
Can I use my credit card insurance?
Yes, as long as it meets our requirements and provides adequate coverage. Ensure you have an emergency contact number and policy number available.
When should I buy travel insurance?
Purchase travel insurance as soon as you've paid in full or booked your flights.
Does Art of Bicycle Trips sell travel insurance?
We do not sell travel insurance directly, as we believe our customers should have the freedom to choose a policy that best suits their needs. However, we recommend Insured Nomads as a great starting point.
