Day 1: Hanoi

After arriving and settling into our hotel, we meet our guide at 1:00 p.m. to begin our first exploration of Vietnam’s lively capital. We set out on foot through Hanoi’s bustling streets, immersing ourselves in its rich tapestry of history and culture. Our journey begins at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a site of great national pride, followed by a visit to the One Pillar Pagoda, an elegant wooden temple rising from a lotus pond, standing as a symbol of Vietnam’s ancient artistry.

Next, we step into the tranquil courtyards of the Temple of Literature, where time seems to pause amid age-old pavilions and stone steles that honor the country’s earliest scholars. Continuing toward Hoan Kiem Lake, we soak in the city’s rhythm and cross the scarlet bridge to Ngoc Son Temple, gracefully poised on a small island amid shimmering waters.

As evening falls, we gather for a traditional Water Puppet Show, a delightful performance where wooden puppets dance across the water, bringing centuries-old folk tales to life. We end our day sharing dinner together, reflecting on the perfect blend of Hanoi’s tradition, artistry, and timeless charm.

Day 2: Lan Ha Bay

This morning, we set out for one of Asia’s most breathtaking natural wonders — the awe-inspiring limestone karst landscape of Lan Ha Bay. Located just south of the famed Halong Bay, Lan Ha is its quieter, more pristine sister — a hidden paradise of emerald waters, secluded coves, and forested limestone peaks rising dramatically from the sea. Its calm waters make it perfect for kayaking, swimming, or simply drifting along and soaking in the serenity of this otherworldly seascape.

We board our luxurious Paradise Grand Cruise and settle into our elegant cabins as the vessel begins gliding through the maze of towering limestone islands. A delicious Vietnamese lunch awaits in the dining room, where every window frames a cinematic view of the bay. In the afternoon, we head ashore to Viet Hai Village, nestled amid lush greenery and rolling hills. Here, we wander along shaded paths, meet friendly locals, and glimpse the rhythm of daily life in this tranquil corner of Vietnam.

As the sun sets, our cruise anchors in a peaceful lagoon. The evening unfolds beautifully with a hands-on cooking class on deck — we learn to prepare a classic Vietnamese dish as the sky blushes pink over the water. With the gentle sway of the boat and the scent of the sea around us, it’s the perfect way to end a day of discovery and quiet wonder.

Kindly note that the cruise itinerary may vary based on weather conditions and the cruise operator’s seasonal schedule.

Day 3: Shuttle to Ninh Binh

We begin our day in the most peaceful way imaginable — with Tai Chi on the sundeck, as the first light of dawn paints the limestone peaks of Lan Ha Bay in soft hues of gold and pink. The stillness of the bay, broken only by the gentle rhythm of our movements, sets the tone for a day of calm and reflection.

After a light breakfast, we hop aboard a bamboo boat to explore the enchanting Dark & Bright Cave. As we glide quietly through hidden lagoons framed by towering cliffs, the world feels hushed and magical — a secret pocket of paradise revealed only to those who venture this far.

Back on the cruise, a delicious brunch awaits as we sail toward the harbor, watching the majestic karsts recede into the horizon. By late morning, we disembark and continue our journey south to Ninh Binh, often called “Halong Bay on land” for its striking limestone landscapes.

Upon arrival, we make our way to Thung Nham Bird Valley, a tranquil sanctuary where nature truly thrives. Here, we drift along calm waters on a small boat, watching flocks of storks, herons, and kingfishers sweep gracefully across the sky. We explore hidden caves, wander through a lush tropical orchard, and step inside a peaceful Buddhist cave temple — each moment offering a deeper connection with the land and its quiet spirit.

By the end of the day, we feel completely immersed in the rhythm of rural Vietnam — a place where nature and culture exist in perfect harmony.

Day 4: Ninh Binh

We kick off our morning with a climb to Hang Múa Viewpoint, one of Ninh Binh’s most spectacular sights. The stone staircase winds its way up more than 500 steps, and as we reach the top, the reward is nothing short of extraordinary — sweeping views of Tam Coc’s emerald rice fields, meandering rivers, and jagged limestone peaks stretching endlessly across the horizon. The gentle morning breeze and the sense of accomplishment make this the perfect way to awaken both body and spirit.

Next, we make our way to Trang An, where we embark on a scenic boat journey through a maze of tranquil waterways, ancient caves, and hidden valleys. As our rower skillfully navigates the calm waters, we glide past moss-covered cliffs, timeworn temples, and quiet riverbanks that feel worlds away from modern life. The serenity here is spellbinding — it’s easy to understand why Trang An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After a delicious local lunch, we continue to Hoa Lu, once the beating heart of Vietnam’s first capital. Walking through its temple grounds, we trace the legacies of Kings Dinh and Le, whose reigns laid the foundation of the nation. The stories of ancient dynasties come alive amid the scent of incense and the dramatic limestone backdrop that frames the site.

If time and spirit allow, we round off the day with a leisurely bike ride through Ninh Binh’s picturesque countryside. Pedaling along quiet village lanes, we pass farmers tending to their fields, children waving from doorways, and rivers reflecting the golden hues of the late afternoon. It’s a gentle, authentic glimpse into everyday rural life — the perfect way to close a day rich in discovery and connection.

We continue towards Van Long Lagoon, where mirror-like waters reflect towering limestone peaks and drifting clouds, creating a scene of pure tranquility. Riding along the dike, we soak in the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning harmony between land and water that defines this untouched reserve.

After our refreshing morning in nature, we transfer to Hanoi. The rest of the day is free to unwind on our own pace and indulge in the street food experience of Hanoi.
