Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakesh
Upon landing at Marrakesh Airport, you'll be welcomed and transported to your traditional riad accommodation in the heart of the city. Time permitting, explore the vibrant streets showcasing stunning architecture and sensory delights. Visit the iconic Jemaa El-Fnaa Square, where Morocco's cultural energy pulses through markets, performers, and food stalls. This initial taste of Moroccan life sets the tone for your upcoming mountain adventure.

Day 2: Imlil
Transfer to Imlil, the trekking hub nestled in the Atlas foothills where mountaineers from across the globe gather. This charming village features traditional flat-roofed adobe homes surrounded by orchards of figs and walnuts, with artisan shops and aromatic cafes filling the air with spices and mint tea. Your acclimatization hike leads to Collado Ikkis for sweeping massif views before returning to prepare equipment. The afternoon allows time to absorb the mountain atmosphere and ready yourself for the days ahead.

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge
Meet your muleteer team and cook as the trek officially begins through terraced agricultural fields and walnut groves characteristic of this region. Ascending through High Aroumd, pass picturesque Berber settlements before reaching the sacred Marabout of Sidi Chamharouch after three hours, an important Islamic pilgrimage site beside rushing waters. Continue climbing through demanding switchbacks and steep terrain into the upper Aroumd Valley, where dramatic peaks—Toubkal, Ouanokrin, Afella, and Timesguida—tower above. Refresh at mountain springs before settling into the refuge for traditional mint tea, dinner, and stargazing.

Day 4: Toubkal Peak
Begin before dawn with a quick breakfast, then start the summit push to North Africa's highest point. Cross a stream and tackle steep initial slopes past a potentially frozen waterfall before the gradient moderates. Navigate through boulder fields gaining steady elevation toward the pass separating Toubkal's twin summits, then turn left along a gentle ridge to the characteristic peak. From the top, panoramic vistas reveal the Anti-Atlas plains, Djebel Siroua, and the Sahara gateway to the south. Descend to the refuge to rest and celebrate your achievement.

Day 5: Marrakesh
Trek down from Refuge Toubkal to Imlil, then transfer back to Marrakesh for free time exploring this magnificent African city. Once the heart of a Berber empire connecting the Sahara, Atlas, and Anti-Atlas regions, Marrakesh captivates with its souks, medina, palaces, gardens, and mosques. As evening approaches, the city transforms with golden light and cooler temperatures drawing people outdoors. Experience the vibrant Plaza de la Djemma el Fna at sunset, where colors intensify and the urban landscape glows with harmonious beauty.
Day 6: Departure
Your mountain adventure concludes with airport transfer for your homeward flight. The memories of summiting Toubkal, experiencing Berber hospitality, and exploring Morocco's dramatic landscapes will remain with you long after departure. The team bids you safe travels and hopes you'll return to discover more of Morocco's natural wonders and cultural treasures in the future.

The Toubkal Summit Hike takes place in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, where weather conditions vary significantly with altitude.
In spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), the weather is generally the most pleasant for trekking, with daytime temperatures around 12°C–22°C (54°F–72°F) in the valleys and cooler conditions higher up on the mountain.
Summer months (June–August) can be warm in lower areas such as Marrakesh and Imlil, with temperatures reaching 25°C–35°C (77°F–95°F), though the higher elevations remain cooler and more comfortable for hiking.
In winter (November–March), temperatures drop considerably at higher altitudes, and snow is common near the summit of Mount Toubkal. Daytime temperatures can range from 0°C–10°C (32°F–50°F) with much colder nights.
Regardless of the season, trekkers should expect strong sun during the day, cooler evenings, and rapidly changing mountain weather, so layered clothing and proper mountain gear are recommended.

Our experience shows that guests who purchase travel insurance—including coverage for all activities on the itinerary, trip cancellation, interruption, delay, baggage damage, loss or theft, personal accident, death and repatriation costs, medical and emergency expenses (including Covid-19), and personal liability—travel with greater peace of mind.
Is proof of medical insurance required?
Yes. You must provide your insurer's name, policy number, and emergency contact via our reservation form. This is mandatory. If you cannot provide proof, you’ll need to purchase insurance before traveling with us.
Can I use my credit card insurance?
Yes, as long as it meets our requirements and provides adequate coverage. Ensure you have an emergency contact number and policy number available.
When should I buy travel insurance?
Purchase travel insurance as soon as you've paid in full or booked your flights.
Does Art of Bicycle Trips sell travel insurance?
We do not sell travel insurance directly, as we believe our customers should have the freedom to choose a policy that best suits their needs. However, we recommend Insured Nomads as a great starting point.
