Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Calvi
Arrive independently in Calvi, a stunning coastal town accessible by air (Aircorsica flights from Paris or Marseille), ferry (from Nice, Marseille, or La Ciotat), or train via Bastia and Ponte Leccia. Explore the beautiful citadel perched on a rocky spur, wander through pretty cobbled streets, and enjoy magnificent views of the coast and nearby beaches. Take time to settle in and discover this charming seaside town at your own pace.

Day 2: Calvi
Embark on a scenic coastal walk along the Sentier du Littoral, set along bare rock following the jagged coastline. Discover the peninsula's secluded beaches perfect for swimming, as you complete a loop around the Point de la Revellata. From the Revellata Lighthouse, admire stunning views of the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. Return to Calvi along a path at the top of the peninsula, taking in panoramic vistas of this beautiful region.

Day 3: Calvi
Leave the coast behind and ascend to Notre Dame de Serra, a beautiful hilltop chapel offering magnificent vistas of Calvi's bay, citadel, and Reginu valley. The path winds through Corsican scrub (maquis) with mostly easy terrain and some rocky sections. Admire the 19th-century chapel's simple architectural design, Baroque bell tower, and the large statue of Notre Dame de la Serra. For those seeking a challenge, continue on a sun-exposed, rocky trail to Capu di a Veta, the highest point above Calvi, featuring an Austrian cross and incredible panoramic views.

Day 4: Corte
Enjoy a free morning to discover Calvi at your leisure—relax by the beach, explore the town, or join an optional boat tour to the Calanches de Piana or Girolata. In the afternoon, transfer to Corte (not included) either via the famous Micheline train (2.5-hour scenic journey through mountains, approximately €15-20) or private taxi (1.5 hours). Upon arrival, walk 20 minutes to your hotel in the town center. Corte, nestled at the base of several valleys and crowned by its citadel, is the historic capital of Corsica and the heart of the island's cultural preservation movement.

Day 5: Corte
Set out from Corte on foot into the heart of wilderness. Follow the easy, cobbled Mare a Mare path along the left bank of the Tavignano river with no steep climbs or descents. As you penetrate deeper into the gorge, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic with high mountain vistas. The path eventually descends to a footbridge crossing the river, where a natural pool offers a refreshing swim. Return along the same scenic route. Note: During July and August, start this hike as early as possible due to lack of shade.

Day 6: Corte
Choose between two excellent hiking options. Option 1: A circular hike to Punti di u Corbu pass, dedicated to Saint Teoflu, the only saint born in Corsica (October 30, 1740). Enjoy spectacular views of Corte, the Restonica valley, and the eastern sea. Option 2: Explore the wild, lesser-known Riviseccu valley to discover the beautifully restored Bergeries de Rivisecco sheepfolds amidst magnificent rocky masses and Lariccio pine forest. This option requires booking a shuttle bus (May-September) or private taxi transfer.
Day 7: Departure
Your Corsican walking adventure concludes after breakfast in Corte. Depart at your leisure via train to Calvi, Bastia, or Ajaccio, or take the bus to Ajaccio (1 hour 45 minutes). Regular flights and ferries are available from Calvi, Ajaccio, and Bastia to Paris, Nice, or Marseille. Farewell to beautiful Corsica with memories of stunning coastal and mountain landscapes.

Arrival
Travelers can arrive on the island of Corsica by air or ferry. The most convenient option is flying into Calvi – Sainte-Catherine Airport, with regular Air Corsica flights from Paris and Marseille. Travelers may also reach Corsica by ferry from Nice, Marseille, or La Ciotat. Another alternative is to arrive at Bastia–Poretta Airport and continue to Calvi by train via Ponte Leccia. Upon arrival in Calvi, the tour begins with exploration of the town and its historic citadel.
Departure
The tour ends in Corte after breakfast. From Corte, travelers can take trains to Calvi, Bastia, or Ajaccio, or a direct bus to Ajaccio (approximately 1 hour 45 minutes). Flights operated by both regular and low-cost airlines depart from Calvi Airport, Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport, and Bastia Airport, connecting to major French cities such as Paris, Nice, and Marseille. Ferry services are also available from Bastia and Ajaccio to Nice and Marseille for those continuing their journey by sea.
Corsica has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot summers, mild winters, and sunny weather for most of the year. Coastal areas such as Calvi remain warmer, while inland mountain towns like Corte can be slightly cooler, especially at night.
During the best months (May–September), temperatures typically range between 66°F and 90°F, with clear skies and warm sea temperatures are perfect for hiking, coastal walks, and swimming. Spring and autumn offer comfortable conditions with temperatures around 52°F–72°F, making them pleasant but slightly less predictable. Winter months are cooler (46°F–57°F) and quieter, with fewer tourists and occasional rainfall.
Because of this climate, late spring to early autumn is considered the best time for walking holidays in Corsica, when the island’s mountains, beaches, and scenic trails can be enjoyed at their best.
