ARRIVAL

Your tour begins in Achenkirch, located on the northern shore of Lake Achensee. The most convenient arrival point is Munich Airport (MUC). From the airport, travel by train to Munich Central Station, then continue by EC train to Jenbach, followed by a bus to Achenkirch. Alternatively, you can travel via Tegernsee and continue by bus or taxi.

If arriving by car, take the A12 Inntal motorway and exit at Wiesing/Achensee, then follow the B181 to Achenkirch. Arriving by early evening is recommended for a smooth start.

DEPARTURE

Your tour ends in Achenkirch. From here, you can take a local bus to Jenbach and continue by train to Munich Central Station, with onward connections to Munich Airport (MUC). The journey is straightforward and well connected. If travelling by car, you can retrace your route via the B181 and A12 motorway.

As departure is individual, you may also choose to extend your stay around Lake Achensee and explore more of the region.

The best time for hiking in the Karwendel Mountains is from June to early October, when trails are accessible and conditions are stable. Summer months offer the warmest weather, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) in valleys, though it can be cooler at higher elevations. July and August are ideal for longer days but may bring occasional thunderstorms.

June and September provide more comfortable hiking conditions, with temperatures around 12°C to 22°C (54°F to 72°F) and fewer crowds. Outside this window, snow and unpredictable weather make hiking conditions less suitable.

This tour takes place in Austria and partly in Germany, both of which are part of the Schengen Area. Travellers who require a visa must apply for a Schengen Tourist Visa (Type C) prior to departure. The Schengen visa allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and permits travel across all Schengen member countries, including both Austria and Germany covered in this itinerary.

Applications should be submitted through the embassy, consulate, or authorised visa application centre of the main country of stay, which in this case is typically Austria. Required documents generally include a valid passport, confirmed accommodation, travel itinerary, proof of sufficient funds, and travel insurance covering the entire Schengen region.
