The first riding day begins on bike trails alongside the Vltava River, with approximately 20 km of relatively flat riding before the route leaves the river valley. From here, the terrain rises into the Posázaví highlands, where the climbs are rewarded with views across the surrounding countryside. Along the way, there is an opportunity to make a short hike to the hidden ruins of Zbořený Kostelec. Continue towards Týnec nad Sázavou, a town associated with the former Jawa motorcycle factory, before finishing the day near Konopiště Castle. Arrival
Guests should arrive independently inPrague, the capital of the Czech Republic and one of Europe’s most beautiful historic cities. The nearest international gateway is Václav Havel Airport Prague , which is well connected to major cities across Europe and worldwide. From the airport, travelers can reach the city center by taxi, airport shuttle, or public transportation in approximately 30–45 minutes.
Arrival is scheduled for Day 0, when guests check into their chosen Prague hotel and have free time to explore the city. An optional guided bike tour of Prague is available and is highly recommended as a relaxed introduction to the destination and a chance to test the bicycles before the main journey begins. Since many travelers prefer to spend additional time in Prague, accommodation on the arrival night is not included in the tour package. We recommend booking at least one extra night to fully enjoy Prague’s Old Town, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and vibrant local culture.
**Departure **
The cycling tour concludes on Day 7 in Vienna, Austria’s elegant imperial capital. After cycling through the Moravian wine region and crossing into Austria, guests are transferred from the Poysdorf area to Vienna, where the tour officially ends. Departure can be planned from Vienna International Airport, located about 20 km (12 mi) from the city center and easily accessible by train, airport bus, taxi, or private transfer. As with Prague, accommodation in Vienna on the final night is not included, giving travelers the flexibility to extend their stay and enjoy the city’s famous palaces, museums, coffee houses, classical music heritage, and Danube-side atmosphere. Many guests choose to add one or more nights in Vienna before flying home.
The Prague–Vienna Greenways route experiences a temperate Central European climate with four distinct seasons. Spring (March to May) brings gradually warming temperatures, blooming countryside, and moderate rainfall, making it one of the most attractive times for cycling. Temperatures typically range from 4°C to 22°C (39°F to 72°F). The landscapes around Prague, Tábor, Telč, Podyjí National Park, Znojmo, and Mikulov are especially scenic during this period.
Summer (June to August) is warm and generally sunny, with daytime temperatures averaging 15°C to 28°C (59°F to 82°F). July and August are the warmest months and can occasionally exceed 30°C (86°F). Longer daylight hours make sightseeing and cycling enjoyable, although brief afternoon thunderstorms are possible. The vineyards of South Moravia and Austria are lush and vibrant during this season.
Autumn (September to October) is considered one of the best periods for this tour. Temperatures remain comfortable at 8°C to 23°C (46°F to 73°F), while vineyards around Mikulov, Znojmo, and the Austrian wine regions are at their most picturesque during the harvest season. Clear skies, colorful foliage, and fewer tourists create ideal cycling conditions.
Winter (November to February) is cold, with temperatures commonly ranging from -3°C to 6°C (27°F to 43°F). Snow, frost, and shorter daylight hours can affect cycling conditions, particularly in the Czech highlands and rural areas. While Prague and Vienna remain attractive for city visits and Christmas markets, this period is generally considered unsuitable for long-distance cycling tours.
