Begin the day with a transfer to the port for the ferry crossing to Santo Antão, a journey of about one hour across the Atlantic waters. On arrival in Porto Novo, a taxi transfers you to the central ridges of the island. Your walk begins in the Cova crater, an impressive volcanic formation lined with pine and mimosa trees.

From here, follow a winding path descending through the northern valleys toward Chã de Manuel dos Santos. The trail reveals dramatic mountain scenery and rural landscapes before reaching your accommodation in the upper Paul Valley, where you will stay for the next two nights.

Today is dedicated to exploring the lush Paul Valley, one of the most fertile areas on Santo Antão. Depart on foot from your accommodation and follow a path that gradually climbs toward the Pico d'Antonio pass. It is an inviting place to pause and enjoy your picnic while admiring the surrounding scenery. The route then descends through the valley, where terraced crops of sugar cane, manioc, banana trees, and coffee shape the landscape. After completing the hike, a transfer returns you to your accommodation in the upper Paul Valley.

After a transfer to Ponta do Sol, a fishing village and former port, begin one of the island’s most scenic coastal hikes. The path is carved into basalt cliffs and runs high above the Atlantic Ocean, offering striking views of the rugged coastline. This undulating route leads first to the village of Corvo and continues toward Formiguinhas.

Along the way you pass abandoned settlements and a stretch of black sand beach before reaching the fishing village of Cruzinha. The day highlights the dramatic coastal landscapes of Santo Antão. After completing the walk, a transfer returns you to Ponta do Sol for the night.

Transfer to Coculi, one of the historic centres of Santo Antão’s central valleys. The walk begins in the small valley of Figueiral before continuing into the agricultural landscapes of João Afonso and Chã de Pedras. Terraced fields and small hamlets line the route, producing crops such as bananas, coffee, manioc, and sugar cane.

In João Afonso you meet your host Augusta and take part in preparing the traditional dish cachupa, which is later enjoyed for lunch. After the meal, continue hiking toward Chã das Pedras and Ribeirão before meeting your driver. A scenic drive along the remarkable Rope Road leads to Ribeira das Patas, where you stay for two nights

Your final walk explores the southern foothills of Santo Antão. Begin in the dramatic terrain surrounding the Ribeira das Patas canyon, where the landscape is shaped by rugged rock formations and deep valleys. The route climbs gradually to ridges marked by impressive basalt needles that dominate the skyline. From here, descend toward the greener northern side of the island.

Sugar cane fields and banana plantations bring a welcome contrast to the earlier arid scenery. The hike concludes in the small hamlet of Alto Mira, where you meet your driver for the return transfer to your accommodation in Ribeira das Patas for the evening.

After breakfast, transfer to Porto Novo and board the ferry back to São Vicente. Once in Mindelo, enjoy free time to explore the city. Its streets reveal traces of Portuguese and British influence, visible in landmarks such as the Governor's Palace and the lively Rua de Lisboa with its fruit and vegetable market. In the afternoon, meet your driver guide for a tour of the island.

The route crosses the central oasis before reaching the coastal hamlet of Calhau. Continue along the beach of Praia Grande toward Baia das Gatas before visiting Monte Verde, the island’s highest peak. Return to Mindelo in the late afternoon.

Setting out early in the morning with a local guide, you begin climbing the dark volcanic slopes of the cone. The trail leads steadily upward across vast expanses of loose black ash and volcanic slag, offering a powerful sense of the island’s geological character.

Reaching the summit is a truly rewarding moment. From the top, wide views open across the caldera and the surrounding volcanic landscape. After enjoying the spectacular panorama, begin the descent along the same ash slopes, where the soft terrain creates a surprisingly pleasant return. The day concludes back at your accommodation in the caldera.

This morning marks your final hike on Fogo Island, beginning along the northern edge of the caldera. The trail soon enters a forest of eucalyptus and mimosas, offering welcome shade and a striking contrast to the volcanic terrain above. As the walk continues, the route gradually descends toward the ocean, revealing ever changing scenery.

Terraced fields appear along the slopes, cultivated with coffee, papaya, banana, and orange trees that reflect the agricultural life of the island. The long descent eventually brings you closer to the coast, where a transfer awaits to return you to São Filipe along a scenic panoramic road.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight from Fogo to Santiago Island. Upon arrival, you will meet your English speaking guide for a discovery of Praia, the lively capital of Cape Verde. Begin at the colorful Sucupira market, a vibrant hub that reflects the daily rhythm of the city.

Continue to the pedestrian district of the Plateau, the historic and administrative center where colonial architecture and a distinctly Cape Verdean atmosphere define the streets. Later, travel by taxi with your guide to Cidade Velha, the first colonial trading post founded by the Portuguese in 1460.

Overlooking the sea, this historic site is dominated by the São Filipe fortress and features the ruins of a cathedral, historic houses, and the symbolic Pelourinho. Return to Praia for the evening.
