Norway’s Sogn region has a diverse mountain and fjord climate with four main seasons, each offering a very different travel experience.
The best season (June–August) is summer, with temperatures around 12°C–22°C (54°F–72°F), when the weather is mild, days are long, hiking trails are fully accessible, and fjords, valleys, and waterfalls like Vettisfossen are at their most powerful and scenic.
The good season (May and September) is late spring and early autumn, with temperatures between 8°C–18°C (46°F–64°F), offering pleasant hiking conditions, fewer crowds, and beautiful natural transitions such as melting snow in May and autumn colors in September.
The mixed season (April and October) is shoulder season, with temperatures ranging from 3°C–12°C (37°F–54°F), where conditions can be unpredictable with possible snow at higher elevations, wet trails, and occasional route adjustments, though the landscapes remain dramatic and beautiful.
The off season (November–March) is winter, with temperatures from -5°C–5°C (23°F–41°F), bringing heavy snow, icy trails, and limited accessibility, making most hiking routes in this itinerary unsuitable. Overall, summer and the shoulder months of May and September are the most preferred for this tour due to safe hiking conditions, open trails, and the best fjord scenery.
