Arrival

Arrive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the starting point of your alpine adventure. Upon arrival, you will receive a personal welcome at the Eckbauer lift, where you can collect your travel documents and drop off your luggage. This meeting point also serves as an orientation for the journey ahead.

The nearest airports are Innsbruck (INN), approximately 60 km away, and Munich (MUC), around 90 km away. From these airports, you can reach Garmisch-Partenkirchen by regional trains operated by Deutsche Bahn or by buses such as FlixBus. Taxi services and private transfers are also available for a more direct and comfortable journey.

Departure

After completing your alpine crossing, a return transfer from Sterzing (Vipiteno) to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is included on Day 7 by bus. Upon arrival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you can continue your onward journey.

For further travel, you may use trains operated by Deutsche Bahn, long-distance buses such as FlixBus, or local taxi services for transfers to nearby cities or airports. It is recommended to plan your departure with sufficient time for a smooth journey.

The best season for this trans-alpine trek is from June to August, when temperatures typically range between 15°C and 25°C, offering clear skies, long daylight hours, and fully accessible trails.

The good season includes May and September, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C; during this time, the weather remains pleasant, although some snow may persist at higher altitudes in early May.

The mixed season occurs in April and October, when temperatures range between 5°C and 15°C, and weather conditions can be unpredictable, with chances of rain or snowfall in higher regions.

The off-season extends from November to March, with temperatures dropping between -10°C and 5°C, bringing heavy snowfall and making most hiking trails unsafe and inaccessible.
